We are often asked by our juicing community “How long will my juice last?” or “How can I extend the life of my juice so that it’s still as nutritious and delicious as when it’s just been made in my own kitchen?” Ideally we should drink our juice the moment we’ve made it so all those naturally derived nutrients get to work straight away but life being what it is, we aren’t always in a position to do so. So if you wish to make a juice in the morning and take it to the office for your lunch or on an outing, here is a common trick which we’ve tested and works! Add a teaspoon of vitamin C powder or a squeeze of lemon to the bottom of your juice container, once made add a squeeze to the surface of the container also, keep the drink cool and covered by storing it in a thermos flask or a sealed container will do if you can store in a fridge – simple as that! The vitamin C acts as an antioxidant which prevents to juice from turning brown, preserving life and taste of the juice.

What about Spirulina?
A super-super food from Mother Nature in the form of a green powder, and which can so simply be added to a breakfast smoothies or shaken up with a juice. It’s a type of blue-green algae, rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, namely B complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin E, manganese, zinc, copper, iron and selenium. You can purchase spirulina in any health food store in either powder or tablet format.
Here is an idea for a great tasting and super nutritious breakfast smoothie with Spirulina –
1 chopped banana, low fat natural yogurt, handful of cashews and pitted dates (or whatever dried fruit/nuts you prefer) teaspoon wheatgerm, teaspoon spirulina – blend and serve.
We’ve also tried adding spirulina to juices and these are two of our favourites –
¼ watermelon, cube fresh ginger, 1 teaspoon spirulina
3 sticks celery, 1 apple, 1 Beetroot, 1 teaspoon spirulina
Tip – shake the spirulina with some of the juice in a jar, then mix it with the rest
Some juicing recipes for spring
The days are starting to get that little big longer and maybe the sun a little bit warmer as Mother Nature reminds us that Spring is here, so let’s wake up our bodies by exploring some invigorating juice recipes! At your local market, look out for the following ingredients, and remember that choosing locally grown produce means supporting a lower carbon footprint and the farming community who keep the countryside looking as it should!
March, April & May look out for cucumber, broccoli, spinach, watercress & rhubarb
Green Goddess

1 bunch fresh parsley, 1 handful watercress, 4 broccoli spears, ½ pineapple
Some of you may be turned off by all the greens in this juice but we definitely think you should try it – the pineapple goes so well with the greens and you are getting B vitamins, beta-carotene, folic acid, calcium, iron & magnesium – your body will thank you for it!
1 Cucumber, 2 Apples
This juice is exactly what its name indicates – a simple yet deeply cleansing juice, great for a spring detox, good for digestion and your skin
Grape & Green

4 large kale leaves, 2 handfuls spinach, 2 sticks celery, 1 grapefruit
Full of goodness, this juice is great for building up your immune system and giving a healthy glow to your skin. The earthy green taste is softened by the tangy grapefruit and salty celery.
We are currently experimenting with juicing rhubarb so will post an update once we discover a winner!
